Nominations for the "FRYDERYK 2012" award

Next Monday is the last voting day by the members of the Phonographic Academy for the "FRYDERYK 2012" Award. The winner should be announced on April 26th. Maciej Zielinski is one of the five nominees. The stakes are high as the other nominees include Krzysztof Penderecki and Wojciech Kilar. Maciej Zielinski’s most recent record “Across the Millenniums” has been very well received in classical music circles and among the wider public.

Last year Maciej Zielinski certainly grabbed the limelight on the Polish modern music scene. His classical music monographic album “Across the Millenniums” premiered in September. The five compositions outline the composer’s creative roadmap from the 90’s until his 2010 “Concerto Inquieto” for clarinet and orchestra. The excellent soloist Artur Pachlewski has successfully performed the concerto with orchestras from many regional philharmonic centres in Poland.

Two of Zielinski’s compositions were performed as part of the Warsaw Autumn Festival. The performances were also used as an opportunity to promote the recently released album.  During the 2011 - 2012 art season, Maciej Zielinski was Composer-in-Residence for the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. As part of the residency he composed an impressive 45-minue, 5-part piece titled “V Symphony”, whose first performance was highly acclaimed in January of this year.
